The Best of Fast Times!

Welcome! This is Caged Unleashed!

An unhinged podcast dedicated to the wild and wonderful filmography of Nicolas Freaking Cage!

I am your host Le Gault.

This is the introductory episode so I’m am kinda quickly introduce everything.

Today You are all Greendale Humans! Along with our buddy Abed we are taking a two day course on Nicolas Cage: Good or Bad! But unlike that cool! cool cool cool nerd we will be pacing ourselves.

Also seeing as how Nicolas Cage has been in over 100 movies it’s going to take a heck of a lot longer than two days.

Today we are all g\Greendale Humans going on a two day course entitled Nicolas Cage: Good or Bad? along with Abed.

On this episode I will be referencing a movie Nicolas Cage is not in but is often cited as being in, Burbaker (1980). Then, moving on to his two earliest roles: The Best of Times (1981) and Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982).

My Notes on The Best of Times:

This is a 1980’s ABC - TV variety show… pilot…. It’s basically American musical Degrassi. It plays like a ‘hey fellow young people’ 80’s after school special.

Directed by Don Mischer and produced by George Schlatter.

The star was a teen Crispin Glover… who is nooooormal… well for Crispin Glover.

Teenagers are woven into the fabric of life, without us there is no future, we’re not just interested in having a good time and goofing off… we are concerned.

Nicolas Cage was credited as Nicolas Coppola - he played Nick, a toned beach jock who is good with the girls. He's introduced doing one armed push up on the beach… ok. Get it.

He loves Rocky (as in the Stallon movie)… and when he hit that side of beef.

The teens are trying to get quarters from a gas station - Mr. O’Reilly [Jackie Mason from Caddyshack II]… and they break out into song + dance…

Nicky talks to Kevin about women -

Takes all kinds..

It’s not about luck.

Imitates Kevin - “It says happy, no problems, no worries, nothin, just happy. In this world if you look to happy, people think you’re stupid.” He walks around brooding. Then asserts muscles is what turns women on then let women do all the talking while you look into their eyes. “Women are sensitive they can pick up on mental vibrations.”

I think, QUOTE, I am the most beautiful man you have ever seen. My magnificent biceps drive you wild with desire, unquote.

Nick encourages Kevin to talk to a women… he strikes out but was honest.

Car Wash time… they sing working 9 to 5… Nic is overalls and crashed a car. Omg they start doing a ho down… HE DID JUMPING SPLITS.

Crispin dances to Talking Heads….. umm… It's giving Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter.

I can’t make up my mind between Stanford and Harvard.” - there’s no surfing at Harvard. “Well that decides that!” Nicky says to David at the arcade.

They do a rap about chores that is kinda sexist…

Nick is back at the Beach with Kevin.

Heartbreaker - Pat Benatar - about Crispin wearing jeans…?

Nick has a heart to heart about ‘The El Salvatore thing’ - he’s worried about being drafted and going to war. Then he uses it to get a hot date to the dance…

My Notes on Fast Times:

Supposedly Nic Cage was supposed to play Brad (Judge Reinhold’s character) but he was only 17 and could’t do it… he was the only cast member under 18 lol.

He instead plays All-American Burger employee, 'Brad's Bud'.

He puts a homophobic sign on a kid’s back in the background of a scene at school. Later he's at All-American Burger who sees Brad getting fired.

And the rest of the movie happens... without Cage... so I don't care.
